Bike rental KL
« on: April 28, 2009, 04:46:23 am »
Hi guys,

Last year we went up to the Golden Triangle starting from Chiang Mai for a trip of about 2 weeks.

This was already very nice  :) but now we booked a flight to KL from 5th to 29th July.
and I am looking to rent a bike for about 3 weeks to drive around Malaysia.
In Belgium I drive bikes for about 10 years (currently Honda VFR800).

Could anyone help me out with this? Do you maybe know some rental shop
or someone who wants to rent his bike?  ???

I am looking for any descent bike with some space for luggage and a duo rider (my wife).

Thanks a lot,
best regards,
Jo Massoels
Belgium, Europe.

I had came across the advert couple months ago(frm the allo expat forum), in Malaysia it is almost impossible to get a bike for rental purposes. Hope this might help to give you some ideas.

We rent out motorbikes in Penang, 2008 model Kawasaki ER-6Ns - 650cc all rounders. We provide rentals and escorted rides (one day and multi-day to a variety of locations starting and finishing in Penang).

With rentals you get:
Bike, full tank of fuel, disc lock and helmet

Also available for rental are:
Summer jackets with armour protection
Summer gloves
Wet weather gear
Top case

With escorted rides you get:
Bike, helmet, summer jacket, summer gloves, wet weather gear, top case, fuel, meals, drinks (softdrinks, bottled water, coffee, tea) all inclusive.

Theres another individual(my guess) renting out a 7 mth old zx6r based in Kuala Lumpur.
The rental is a bit pricey(in my opinion), but i suppose money is no object to you.

Looks a good thread to refer. Therefore I put it up as sticky subject for a while.

Seems that bike rental business would be a good business to venture in, as it is very hard to find one. Nontheless we could also promote tourism in our country. i for one am amazed by the spots and the route that Malaysia have to offer.

For some avid enthusiast with the capital should put their heads together and look into the matter. It is in some way affecting the image of our beloved MY.

Hoping that KL would see a shop renting out bikes like at Chenang Beach Langkawi, but SBK instead of superduperbike.

Bike rental in most western countries is expensive also. HD in the US charge 100-120 USD for there rental, I guess bike rental is riskier, and very seasonal.

It is a shame that there is not better coverage in Malaysia for bike hire, but then also look at the cost of bikes here? amonst the highest in the world, so it kinda of makes sence that bike higher would be expensive here, raod tax also very expensive for bike bikes..tires etc. double or 3 times US prices, most bike related thing here in malaysia are even double the Singapore prices!!!

Having said that, this seems like a reasonable opertunity for a business?

Im not so sure....who pays for adnormal wear and tear, crashes, thefts, breakdowns, scrapes and broken parts? Who was at fault, the bike or the rider? How to assess costs and blame? Meantime the bike is now unrentable for a while....no income...

If there was good insurance available that would cover everything....

That being said, kapchai rental seems to go well in Thailand and Bali, anyway.

Need to think this through.

I have friends who wants to rent bikes to ride to Thailand, Cambodia, Laos. Looking at small cc bikes like 150cc but reliable ones. Any company does it in KL?

I visited a sbk shop in Juru, AutoCity, near Penang, and they have bike rentals and tours.  I don't know the cost and conditions.  Guan How Superbike.  I've also seen another bike rental company in Batu Ferringhi for big bikes, but can't remember the company name.  Also, have seen one that rents out small cc mopeds for local usage but am not sure if they will rent out for inter country tours.

Hi,
I just register on this foro and I would like to say thanks for having the opportunity to share.
I am from Spain and I have been riding bikes for 25 years. I had made many motorcycle trips. This summer I will be in Malaysia from June 2nd to the 24th and I am planning to rent a bike to ride around.
I have checked all the info you give on this post. Thanks.

25 years is along time to be on the bike. Welcome bro. We hope you ve got the bike and on the road at the moment. East coast is a good place to tour during this time of the year, less rin compared to the west. The westerly wind is blowing from west across sumatra and thus we get plenty of rain on the western part of the peninsula.

Yeah Ive check out the link you gave... Hit the road man, Turn your miles into SMILES!

Abang,  thanks  for  your response.

Actually I made a mistake!!!! I will be in Malaysia in July 2nd (no june). . . . I guess the advice you gave still valid for July.

Yes I said 25 years, but may be more. . . . My father put me on a bike when I was 8. Now I am 43 . . . I had all types of bikes, and now I end up on a Harley.

I cheked out your foto page.  You are right, "that is what bikes are all about".  Thank you for sharing. I have a motoblog myself with some of our trips (it is in Spanish, sorry, but you can see some pictures as well). It funy, you said ?hit the road?and actually this is the mane of the blog: You are not allowed to view links. Register or Login

Hi bro,
Best time to go: The monsoon pattern is complex and somewhat unpredictable on the East Coast. June, July and August are probably the optimum months to go. There's heavy rains from about September through December, and depending on the year, the rains can come and go from January through to May.

Generally when it rains, it'll be a short and sharp downpour, and you may only have to sit it out for an hour or so.
